Importing data

As an unexperienced Excel user I want to know if it is possible to import data not in the standard way, i.e. into rows and columns, but into columns and rows.

Example: suppose following textfile:

1 2 3
a b c

The result should be:

1 a
2 b
3 c

The number of records exceeds 15,000 so transposing will probably hard to do.
