Obtain cell value from another workbook

Hi, this may sound a really stupid question but:

I want the value from workbook A (cell A1) to be shown in workbook B (Cell B1).

I've done this before by typing "=" into the formula bar and then just clicking the cell in the other workbook. However when I try to do this at the moment the "=" disappears when I select workbook A - so I can not seelct a cell to link too.

    The complete syntax would be:

    ='[Book2.xls]Sheet1'!A1
