Calculate days between 2 dates (e.g. how many days in May between 15/4/2010-4/6/2010)

I'm in need of some help with some analysis work.

I currently have a spreadsheet with employees who have been subject to disciplinary action along with whether or not they have been suspended and when their suspension started and ended.

I'm trying to automatically calculate suspension pay on a monthly basis so need to know how many days someone has been suspended for.

For example if someone was suspended on 15/04/2010 and the case was finished (either came back to work or was dismissed) on 04/06/2010, I would want 1 column telling me how many days this person was suspended in April then how many days in May then how many days in June.

I have tried using =AND(IF(etc etc but haven't managed to make this work successfully.

Any help would be grately appreciated.
