keeping value after deleting the source

Is there a way to keep the cell value after I delete the reference?
Example: cell A1(=B1) is returning the value of B1. B1 value is deleted and A1 returns to 0 because of no value in B1, what can i use to get it to stay as the previous value?

Copy B1 and paste over it as values.
