    IF function cross-workbooks

    Hi,

Could you please advice if it's workable to have IF function between two different workbooks?

I am trying this, however, it does not work for me.

Your advice will be very much appreciated.

Yes, it's work if you are not mistyped any.
Maybe you can share with us, which 2 workbook you try and not work for you?

    Re: IF function cross-workbooks?

    Hi,

    Thanks you very much.

I found out vlookup might solve the problems that i am having. However, since IF also working i then would like to have a try.

Could you also please advice would there be any different in performance between the use of IF & Vlookup? or they use for two different purpose?

I have attached the two workbooks as reference.

Record Update 21-Sep.xls is where i enter all the information.
Summary.xls is where to show the summary information from Record Update 21-Sep.xls workbook.

i.e: whenever i enter start date in Record Update 21-Sep.xls workbook then that value would be displayed in the Summary.xls workbook.

Your comment will be very much appreciated.

    Re: IF function cross-workbooks?

I don't see any chance to use IF here. Just wasting of time if you try to use IF function which suppose to be VLOOKUP. By using VLOOKUP, the formula is short and simple, if you want to use IF, it would be vice versa.

Another, I don't exactly know why you want to divide it into 2 workbook, which all the value is in same format. (NOTE : You can just hide the C and D column of Record Update.xlsx to achieve the result which are also the same with the Summary.xlsx)

    Hi,

We have some sensitive data in the original workbook and dont want to let them them see. However, thank you very much for your time. I am going to vlookup now.

    Cheer!
