    Restructuring Data

    Hi Guys,

Hopefully, what is a quick problem...currently my data is stored like the below image, but I need it in a new format for analysis.

Using Excel I can filter out values by season, month and year etc - what I need to do next is somehow shift these values into new columns (see my example).

    Current

    \1

    Desired

    \1

Hopefully this makes it clear...I would like the 'year' to become the column header, followed by the discharge values below (denoted as x in the second example above).

I've tried Pivot tables without any success

    Thanks _b

    Re: Restructing Data

    SimonNZ,

    Welcome to the Excel Forum.

You are posting a picture. This means that if this was a problem where one needed to use your data, anyone trying to help you would have to enter the data manually. That makes no sense and I doubt you'd get any answer.

Please attach your workbook or a sample workbook that accurately portrays your current workbook on one sheet, and what it should look like 'After' on another sheet. This makes it much easier to see exactly what you want to do, as well as shows us whether there is a consistent number of rows between tables and such.

Click on the New Post button, then scroll down and click on the Manage Attachments button.
    Have a great day,
    Stan

    Re: Restructuring Data

    Hi Stan,

Thanks for your reply - I've attached an example like you mentioned.

As you can see in the example the data is currently stored in a simple X, Y format

    1958 X
    1958 X
    1958 X

    etc

What I require (see the desired attachment) is data stored like this

    1958 1959 etc
    x x
    x x
    etc

Essentially keeping a single year value as a column header and transferring the remainder of the data below

    Thanks

    SimonNZ,

    Detach/open workbook SimonNZ - EF746507 - SDG14.xlsm and run macro ReorgData.
