Question copy functions only into grouped lines

    Hi,

I'm working on a big excel table with 11000 lines
in my job. For a better overview I 'grouped' (hope
thats the right translation) some lines.

If I am now enter a function in a cell and try to
drag this function down to copy the function to all
the cells which are in the grouped lines, I
have the problem that excel will write also
in all the cells which are between the grouped lines.

So here's a sketch, maybe this makes things clearer:

    v <-- normal line
x <-- the grouped lines, contains the normal lines 'v'

    so could be like this:

    Ungrouped:
    v
    v
    v
    v
    x
    v
    v
    v
    x

    grouped:

    x
    x

If I now write in the first x a function and drag it to the x line below,
excel writes also the function in the 3 v lines between the x's the same function.

This is a big problem for me. Is it possibly only to copy
the functions in the grouped lines?
By hand is a extrem time-consuming procedure, because
there are 700 grouped lines and several functions.
I would be really thankful if somebody can help me.

Re: copy functions only into grouped lines

Easiest way would be to use Ctrl+G (GoTo) and select Visible Cells only. You will want to highlight ONLY the data you want to replace with the formula.

So, if you want to replace all visible cells from A2:A500, then:
    1. write your formula in a cell
    2. copy the cell that contains the formula
    3. select your range (for the example, we'll say A2:A500)
    4. hit Ctrl+G to open GoTo
    5. select Visible Cells and click OK
    6. hit Ctrl+V to paste the formula in all those cells selected

    Hope that helps!
