    Formula assistance - find duplicate and present results

    Ok, I want help with a formula.

    Here is what I want to acheive:

    B....................................C
    ......................................1234
    ......................................1541
    Number already in use......1234

    So, if there are any duplicate entries within the whole of column C, I want the cell adjacent to it within the B column to read "Number already in use.

    In B1 copied down: =IF(COUNTIF($C$1:C1,C1)>1,"Number already in use","")

    Yes! Thanks loads Dom. This does exactly what I want. I'd been messing around with alsorts of formulas.

    How to mark a thread Solved
    Go to the first post
    Click edit
    Click Go Advanced
    Just below the word Title you will see a dropdown with the word No prefix.
    Change to Solved
    Click Save
