Thumbs up [SOLVED] Adding half an hour to a time value

    Good day,

I'm having a bit of a hard time in Excel 2003. Basically all I need to do is add half an hour incriminates to a time value in a cell.

    I've tried =Sum(E5 + 00:30)
    =Sum(E% + Time(0,30,0))

With no success; would anyone have any pointers?

    Thanks in advance.

I tried the formula =SUM(E5 + 1/48) and it returned with #VALUE! Thank you for your advice, but I think I might be misunderstanding you?

What's in E5? If you get #VALUE! that implies that E5 is a text value not a time

In addition, you don't need the SUM. it can be =E5 + 1/48

I beg your pardon, I really should have explained that.

E5 is a cell with the time data in it, formatted at time. So basically, I pop a time in there and then four to six cells after it would show up with that time plus half an hour in the first cell, an hour in the second cell.

I'd like to have a pop up message every time the cell time was reached, but I might just leave that for now.

I hope that makes more sense.

Daddylonglegs is suggesting that # Value often points to an error in trying to add text values. Typically, the "+" in your equation will coerce the text into a number anyway UNLESS there are other characters in the cell like spaces or line breaks. If you put into another cell =ISNUMBER(E5) does it come back TRUE or FALSE? As time, it should be TRUE.

Welp, theres my problem... it came back as false. Honestly, I didn't know about the =ISNUMBER(E5), thats a fantastic little formula to know.

Now, E5 currently say 2:00AM, as its formatted at time. I popped it in as a number, then reformatted to time and there you go! Seems to be working fine.

Thank you to everyone whom helped!
