    Strange copy/paste formula problem

    I am trying to add a column to my spreadsheet that grabs the right two characters of a different cell. I use the simple formula

    in column L and it works. The value I get in Cell L2 is 21 which is correct. When I try to copy and paste that cell down to all the remaining rows it enters 21 into every row, regardless of what is in column M. For example, for row 80 the value in M is 0022, but L is showing 21. The formula in cell L80 is

    so it's copying the formula properly, just not displaying the correct value. If I type in the formula into L80 directly, it works (returns 22).

    I'm new to excel 2007.

    Sounds as though calculation is set to Manual. Press F9 and see what happens.

    Check your setup and make sure that Calculation is set to Automatic.
