Excel 2007 : cant find the vba function i've created

I'm experimenting with VBA in excel for the first time and I'm having trouble finding the function I've created. This is my process:

1. Click the visual Basic editor button on the developer tab
2. Insert -> Module
2. Enter the code for my function
3. Close the Visual Basic editor
4a. Type my function into a cell which results in #NAME?
4b. Press shift+F3 to bring up the Insert Function dialog box. I was told there is a "User Defined" category but there is no such category in my drop down list.

I'm not sure what "Standard" means, but I just went to Insert -> Module. Ah i guess I should have put that in my process. I'll edit my first post.

I would suggest posting a sample file which contains the results of your steps 1 through 4a
