Formula to change text color based on value?

Given cell A1 = 10, how would I construct a formula that says: if Cell A1>5, then make it *red*, but if cell A1<5, then keep it black?

e/ and also, how do I create a formula that basically says, if cell A3 has the words "a, b, c" then "x", OR if cell A3 has the words "d, e, f" then "y"?

    Thanks

    Hello,

you can do this with conditional formatting. It's a big button on the home ribbon. There's also a chapter in the Help files to guide you through it.

    cheers

Thanks, I do see that. However, it doesn't quite solve my problems. Say I have three months as columns: Jan - Col B, Feb - Col C, March - Col D and one column as reference, column A.

If I wanted to say, if Column B > Column A, then red text, how would I apply this to February and March? I tried Format Painter and it doesn't seem to help.

I tried F1 to look for that chapter on conditional formatting but I wasn't able to located the section you were referring to - in fact, my excel crashed haha.

    Thanks!

e/ wait I take that back.....can someone confirm that Format Painter *does* actually do the trick?

please don't quote whole posts. It's clutter and creates work.

post a sample file with your conditional formatting in place.
