Spreadsheet calculation slows down when you save as a new filename

I've encountered the strangest issue in MS Excel 2003. When I save my file as a new name by clicking FILE-SAVE AS then renaming it.... my excel sheet begins its calculation at an extremely slow pace.

On the other hand, if I go into Windows Explorer. Create a copy of my file, then rename it. The calculation speed is extremely fast.

Can anyone shed some light on this???
