    Formatting and merging dates

Hi ive coverted a date eg 22 May 2006 to show 22052006 by using format cells/custom ddmmyyy. This is in cell D2

I need to merge that number with the details in the next cell next cell by using D2&E2 and keep the date as a number. But when I do this it shows something like 38859 and then the data in E2. When I highlight the cell the date showing in the white bar at the top is 22/05/2006 even though I formatted without the slashes

Could anyone help please? Basically I need to merge 22052006 with details in cell E2

    thanks

    Re: Formatting and merging dates

    would this work?
    =TEXT(D2,"ddmmyyyy")&E2

What are you merging this to? Post an example of what is in E2 if the above didn't help.

EDIT:If you need a space between D2 and E2 values:
    =TEXT(D2,"ddmmyyyy")&" "&E2
