Excel 2010 File Opens but data gone, tabs to default, and says Book1 at top

This one has me stumped.

I have a file with about 12 worksheets. One worksheet has about 30 columns and 5000 rows of data. The remaining tabs contain pivot tables of data from that previously mentioned worksheet.

It's been working fine until today when saving/closing, it threw an Excel has stopped message.

I let the recovery process do its thing, but now, trying to open the recovered file it seems to open, but as described in my title, rather than the 12 tabs, it only shows the standard Sheet1, sheet2, sheet3 and all three are empty.

I tried opening in safe mode and get the same results.

If I try to open it again, Excel tells me it's already open.


Additional info... Win7 64bit, 8GB Ram, all MS updates. Files are located on a network drive.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does your Network Admin do daily backups. If so, ask to have the file restored from an earlier backup.

A backup from yesterday is available, but hoping to not lose the work I did today.
Would still like to understand the cause/resolution if/when it happens again
