Searching spreadsheets in excel

hi,

is there a formula that can search an entire excel sheet and return a value? eg. I have "apple" 17 times on my sheet so in a separate column i ask to search the sheet and the return would be 17.

Hi,

If you literally mean the whole sheet you'll need to put the formula on a second sheet otherwise you'll get a circular formula. However if it's less than one sheet and just say columns A:Z just use

=COUNTIF(A:Z,"apple")
