Linked workbooks taking too long to open

I have two workbooks called INPUT and VIEW.
They both have links to each other, but far more cells in INPUT refrencing values in VIEW.
    INPUT is a shared file.

When I open VIEW then open INPUT, everything is fine.
When I open INPUT then open VIEW, it takes forever.

However if INPUT is unshared, then it doesn't cause this problem.

Any ideas of what is happening here or how to avoid it?

Is there any way I can not allow people to open VIEW if INPUT is already open?

Having a sub in the OPEN event of VIEW doesnt work, it is executed too late.

    Two general comments:
    1) NEVER link workbooks (unless you have run your situation past this forum and a recognized Excel authority advises you to link them)

    2) NEVER share workbooks (unless nothing...shared workbooks are a disaster waiting to happen)

Given your current situation...perhaps an on_close macro that sets calculation to manual and save the workbook before closing. AND an on_open macro that sets calculation to automatic after checking that all linked workbooks are already open.

Yes, wouldnt it be awesome if Microsoft products did what they claimed to do without any problems...

Is there a workbook version of Application.Calculation ?
Setting Application.Calculation to manual then saving and reopening doesnt seem to work, it opens back in automatic mode.

Unfortunately I need multiple people to edit the INPUT sheet simultaneously.

Other options I can think of are:
Combine the two workbooks and share the whole thing which I really dont want to do.
Each user has thier own INPUT sheet and they all link to the VIEW.

    Any other ideas?
