How to get sum of cell by date

i have cells arranged by date and i am trying to get the sum of each date automatically for example

1/12/10 5
1/12/10 4
1/12/10 6
1/12/10 1
1/12/10 2 'sum of 1/12/10'
2/12/10 1
2/12/10 2
2/12/10 4
2/12/10 8
2/12/10 5 'sum of 2/12/10'
etc.

Copy the formula down as far as you need.

no i dont think that work because sometimes there is 10 1/12/10 and may only 5 2/12/10

Using the workbook you posted...
Copy C1 and paste down through C19.

You'll see totals at C12 (48) and C19 (31) for 12/1/2010 and 12/2/2010, respectively.

Rons' formula is fine, you need to adjust it to suit your range.
Highlight the formula, and "stretch" the "boxes" to cover your data in columns A & B
