    In Conditional Formatting,

    Cell Value is:

    equal to

    ="tba"

thats what i thought but for some reason its not working

    im using excel 2007

    i highlight my table
    go to conditional formatting
    new rule
    format only cell that contain
    then
    specific text
    containing
then if i do tba they all highlight and if i do "tba" none highlight

After creating the rule go back and Edit the rule and see if the quotation marks are correct.

You may have double quotations which makes it highlight only cells with tba within quotations, which you don't have and, therefore, no highlighting.

Also make sure to check in the Applies To area to make sure your complete table is selected.

After reading your last post again I would advise you try another method:

Delete the rule you have then:

New Rule > Format only cells that contain >
Now: leave the first drop down as Cell Value
next drop down change to: equal to
    next area: tba (no quotes)
apply your formatting and OK out of the dialog boxes

    you should be done
