Excel file size grows when copied

Hello all, I'm having an issue where I click on an excel file within the windows explorer and press ctrl-c to copy it and then ctrl-v to paste it in the same location. Windows automatically names the file "Copy of [Original Filename]". The problem is that this file is mysteriously about 20~30% larger in file size. The original is about 550 KB, while the copy of it is 700 KB.

Any ideas on why this might be the case?

    Hello EsAssistant

I never had that issue, but If you like to minimize the filesize then you should open the excel file and do the following on each sheet:

    1) Check the used area with CTRL+SHIFT+END
    2) If the used area is too big, then mark the unused rows and columns and delete them
    3) Save the file
    4) The effect (modified used area) will not be visible until you reopen the file

    Regards
    Marc

P.S. The filesize also depends on whether you compiled your VBA Code before saving or not. If you compiled it then the file is bigger but the VBA Code will be executed faster as it doesn't have to be compiled at runtime.
