A BMP file cant be a shape as a shape is a series of lines where as a BMP is a series of pixels or dots.
I have just created myself a scale map of the UK as a Shape, but have found no way to add to the standard library (Yet)!
You can use a BMP directly by inserting as a picture, and a tick mark is avalable in some of the fonts which you can use as word art and scale up to the size you need!
You can also use the create shape shape to draw a tick mark as a shape and use that by cut and paste!

not really!
Its part 2 of overlaying the counties that is causing the problem! Working on second revision, I found a PD vectormap file, and wrote code to output vectors to csv, then a macro to create a shape from the coordinates I had! My aim is to make a UK map chart, not reliant on internet for free(or at least very cheap)!
I digress though, I searched high and low for a way of creating shapes my nose is pointing me to look at VISIO and its SDK as a possible place to create shapes which might be added to Excel! Although I'm not sure I want to go hacking around in DLL's to achieve it, I dont have the patience any more!
