    Return single value

I have a list of text in colum A in "test" tab
    For example:
    John
    Mary
    Mary
    Sue
    John
    Cathy

I want to return the following in column A in "test2" tab
    John
    Mary
    Sue
    Cathy
    (hence removing duplicates automatically)

    Any idea?

You can do this manually by using Advanced Filter, Unique records only, copy to another location, then cut and paste to the new tab.

Thanks but that would not work because the list in the "test" Tab changes. So really what I'd need is a formula.

Come to think of it, that would not work for me... Sorry...

I need to find a formula that would automatically look through text into Column A, get rid of the duplicate, and place single text into column B.

    Re: Return single value

what is the problem? the helper can be hidden on another sheet like this, then hide sheet, helpers are far more easy to maintain and work out how its done
or you could try as in col C sumproduct formula in c1,
array formula in c2 dragged down
