Arrow down or up inside cell

I am looking to show the variation between two cells not only with the two values showing but also with a an arrow up or down INSIDE the cell. I had seen this a while ago in a co-worker's sheet and loved that idea.

    Thanks!

One way is a custom number format.

assuming values in A1 and B1 then formula in C1
    =A1-B1

    Number format,
    General↑;General↓;General
    Cheers

As Andy suggests, put the variance calculation in column C. Then apply Conditional Formatting to that column and choose Icon Sets for the Format Style and Three Arrows for the Icon Style. All this provided your version of Excel supports Icon Sets.

Sorry, I omitted one detail... I do not want to subtract B1-A1, I just want to show whether the number in A1 is up or down with the arrow.

Simple omit the General from the number format.
