    Question Weird formula behavior

In some cells of a spreadsheet, when I type in a formula such as =A6 in, say, cell B7, the cell B7 does not show the contents of what is in cell A6 but instead shows the typed formula as if it were just a text entry. The formula does not have a ' in front of the = sign.

    What's up with this?

The cell is preformatted as Text.

Change it to General, then re-evaluate the formula.
