how may entries within a given radius

Appologies if this is the wrong forum for this question, I hposted this on the "programming" page, but I think this is a better page for this.

I have an Excel file that is imported from GPS. Among the imported data is the Lat/Long of a given point. Is there any way for Excel to querry all the data and give me an answer to the following question:

Were are ploted points within "x" meters?

    Thanks

Have a look at the COUNT function and COUNTIF function to determine number of points and number of points following a condition.

    Hi LewR,

Looks like a Pythagorean problem to me. Find the attached where all points in a 10x10 array are listed. Input in the yellow cells the x and y of the point from - and distance. See how many will fall inside of that circle.

    see attached example

Were all plotted points within "x" meters?
Within x meters of one another?

Or, "Is the bounding circle of the points x or less?" (i.e., what is the radius of the bounding circle that encompasses the points)

    Hi shg,

The center of the circle is in E1 (x value) and F1 (y value), The radius of the circle is in H1.

You can change the center of the circle or the radius by changing values in the yellow cells. See the attached above. Change the < to <= if points on the circle are considered in it.

    You knew all that!!

I think this user has a bunch of northing and eastings GPS points and needs some right triangle hypotenuse length review. My data is only an example (you knew that too.) The only reason I'm responding is that you responded to my message instead of LewR's asking about "meters". It confused me a little, as you rarely are confusing.

Yup, I understood your sheet. You specified a point and calculated distance to each other point. That's one problem.

Here's another: What is the maximum distance between any pair of points?

Here's a third: What is the center and radius of the smallest circle that encompasses all the points?

Re: how may entries within a given radius

    Hey shg,
I agree the question was a little vague. I think I can do the two other suggested problems.
I'm glad LewR found his answer.
