    Inactive Application Add-In's

In Excel 2007, under Add-in Options, there is a list of Active and Inactive Application Add-ins. Many of the inactive add-ins are DLL files which, if I try to add them in, are not true Add-in files. How would I activate them, if possible? and if not possible, why are they there?

Some of them are from the Document Inspector, and get loaded as needed. Dunno what else you're seeing.

How did you try to make them active?

    Re: Inactive Application Add-In's

I figured if they were listed as inactive add-in's then they must be add-in's so I tried to add one called "Person Name (Outlook email receipients)" (that sounded good) by clicking on Manage: Add-ins "Go" and then browsing to it. I see now that it's a smart tag. Live and learn.
