Automatic update of links has been disabled

Gud day

i am using excel 2007 and when i open some of the excel documents there is an option which states that " automatic update of links has been disabled" when i click on options a drop down menu pops out which have two options " use recommended" and enable the content, when i choose enable the content, it first start by not responding then a massage that says “Microsoft Office Excel has stopped working” pops up and it will automatically close all excel files open at that time.

please help me
