    Counting issues

    Hi,

Sorry, I've looked though the forum but I just can't find what I'm looking for and was hoping someone can help!

I currently have a spreadsheet which details invoices received from suppliers, and each row on the spreadsheet is dedicated to a line on the invoice.

For example if I have 2 suppliers (A and B), and they each have 2 invoices with 3 lines on each invoice the layout would go as below (excuse the crudity... try and imagine the "-" as column separators):

    SUPA - INV1 - LIN1 - JAN
    SUPA - INV1 - LIN2 - JAN
    SUPA - INV1 - LIN3 - JAN
    SUPA - INV2 - LIN4 - FEB
    SUPA - INV2 - LIN5 - FEB
    SUPA - INV2 - LIN6 - FEB
    SUPB - INV3 - LIN7 - JAN
    SUPB - INV3 - LIN8 - JAN
    SUPB - INV3 - LIN9 - JAN
    SUPB - INV4 - LIN10 - FEB
    SUPB - INV4 - LIN11 - FEB
    SUPB - INV4 - LIN12 - FEB

I'm looking for a formula which will look up how many invoices (regardless of the supplier and line) there have been in a given month. So in this example it should return a value of 2 for JAN invoices.

    Can anyone help me?

    Dunc

Say you have the data in A2:D13 and you list the months in F2 downwards as JAN, FEB, etc...

    Then in G2 try:

    Re: Counting issues

    Hi,

Thanks for your help! I think my initial post was misleading, the line dates aren't listed as months, they are specific dates in the format 27/01/2011, etc. I've tried stringing together formulas and using ">="&DATE and other such things I've spotted on various websites, but I only know just enough excel to get by at my job, so it's all just guess work on my part!

Ok, assuming same setup and you enter in F2 the word "JAN" and in F3 "FEB"

then apply this formula in G2:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
    confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

Note this only looks at the month... if you need to distinguish month and year then in F2 and F3 enter something like Jan-11, Feb-11 and then apply formula
