    CUSTOMIZING HOTKEY or GOTO

I've wondering if it's possible to customize a hotkey or GOTO to go directly to a specified cell: i,e, I have product names running down COLUMN A from ROW 3 to ROW 96. I want to jump down to TIGER BEANIES, for instance, which is in CELL A73 without having to scroll down or know the exact cell number.

Is it possible to customize EXCEL 2010 to type in TIGER BEANIES or press ALT+ TB (or something of that nature) to go to the CELL & ROW that has TIGER BEANIES?

    Thanks for any help.

Hi jeffige and welcome to the forum.

    Try this
    1. Scroll down to Cell A72 and click on it. Then look to the left of the formula bar where it says A73. Click in this box (to the left of the formula bar) and Type a name like "Tiger Beanies". This will then name the range of A72 to that name.
    2. Now click the dropdown next to this Named Range area and see any other named range. Click on that name and go immediately to that cell.

I think this is what you want.

If you are going to type in "TIGER BEANIES " why not try using Find... and type it there?

    Re: CUSTOMIZING HOTKEY or GOTO

Thanks MarvinP. That's close enough to what I was looking for.

Marcol, I'm trying to find the quickest way to jump to specific ROWS WITHOUT having to type anything. In MarvinP's example, after I rename the CELL from CELL A79 to TIGERBEANNIES (it won't let me add spaces) in the name box I just click in the name box and then click on TIGERBEANIES. It takes me right there. Sure the row TIGERBEANIES is at the bottom of the sheet, but it's a heck of a lot quicker than scrolling.

I was hoping I could just add a command or a hotkey (ALT+TB) but this will do just fine.

    Thanks, again.

    Re: CUSTOMIZING HOTKEY or GOTO

if you expand the range say a79:a109 using marvinp idea then it will bring it nearer the top you can overlap ranges

    Two more suggestions are:
    http://www.dummies.com/how-to/conten...workbooks.html
    or
Just to the left of the above is a "New Window" and you can view the same sheet in two separate windows, each positioned like you with. You do have to not have them maximized.

    Re: CUSTOMIZING HOTKEY or GOTO

    Hi,
Actually a named range can be a bunch of cells. You would Drag across A70 to F80 and while they are selected type a name in the Range box to the left of the formula bar.

Then when you clicked on the name it would jump down and select the entire range you had specified.

Awesome! I like that the best. I'll switch to the named range.

Thanks for all the help guys.

    Re: CUSTOMIZING HOTKEY or GOTO

You could record a macro of GOTO that cell, then assign a hot key to the macro.

    Re: CUSTOMIZING HOTKEY or GOTO

I don't have 2010 but here is how it would work in 2007.

You could record a macro or just write it. First let's talk about recording it. There is a little button on the status bar at the bottom left of the window. When you hover it will say something like "click to create a new macro." When you click it, a dialog box will come up asking you to name the macro (the name will be used in code, so no spaces allowed), optionally identify a CTRL hotkey, and a workbook--select "this workbook" since it's specific to one workbook. Click OK.

Now the macro recorder is running. To the left of the formula bar, where it shows the address of the currently selected cell, overtype it with A73 (or whatever is the desired cell) and hit Enter. You should now have your target cell selected. Then click again on the button at the bottom to stop the macro recorder.

You're done. Click CTRL-HOME to go back to the top then try your CTRL sequence you entered when creating the macro.

The downside is now you must allow macros to run when you open the workbook. If your macro security is set to the highest level (see Macro Security on Developer tab on the ribbon), then no macros will run. You will have to change it to the second highest setting, which will cause Excel to prompt you if you open a file with macros to ask if you want to allow them to run.
