    Headcount unique names

Hi, can anyone help with this please? –

I have list of names that need to be counted, however some names appear twice. How can I do a headcount of individual names in the list, assigning a number to every unique name only (in a separate column).

    Thanks

    Re: Headcount unique names

If you intend to assign a number do this first, the count is then the MAX of the numbers.

    Are you names sorted ?

If we assume unsorted then with nmes in A2 onwards

    Thanks DonkeyOte, =SUM($B1,$A2<>$A1) worked perfectly.
