    Excel won't release memory

The company that we use for our Accounting package also designed excel templates with which to upload our budgets into their package. These templates worked perfectly until we upgraded to Excel 2007.

These templates contain macros that we cannot access.

I started the budget process and opened them with Excel 2007. Eversince I opened them Excel has been recording anywhere between 37% to 50% CPU usage just by clicking on the spreadsheet. It takes about 4 seconds to move between cells and has become totally unworkable. This performance issue applies to all spreadsheets including new workbooks that have no connection with the templates.

Before using the template my CPU usage used to hover around 3% - 7%.

I am running a HP Intel duo with 3.46GB of RAM. It's the fastest machine in the company and no-one else is having these issues with Excel.

How do I get Excel to manually release the memory back to the memory manager?

Have you contacted the software authors?
    Hope that helps.
