    Recreating Technical Indicator in Excel

    Hello!)

I wonder if you can help me with this.

I am trying to replicate in excel on technical analysis indicator – Bollinger Bands. They are pretty straight forward to calculate – you take average of the closing prices and add to them 2 standard deviations of the closes above and subtract to place the lower band below. Now I used this approach and the results differ from the two charting packages – first two colored column zones – green and yellow. I also compared my version with the excel specialized technical analysis package EXCEL TECHS and they align almost perfectly with the two charting packages. I also tried step by step FORMULA APPROACH and it does not get the right result as well) I wonder what I am doing wrong here)

    More on Bollinger Bands:

I will be waiting to hear what you think on this)

if your data is less (say, you want 20 day BB, and you have data only for 25 rows), then the numbers will differ...

Get atleast 3 times the data of the moving average. So, for a 20 day moving average, get atleast 60 days of data... so that the averages are offset correctly and the bands reflect that...

Secondly, if you STILL have a problem, check with slightly lower stdev figs like 1.9,1.8,1.7 etc untill they match with other standard softwares... which are highly accurate...
