    Identifying Duplicate Records

I have a column of company names that are duplicated that I need to identify by grouping them together with unique ID's. For example: I have row 1, 2 & 3 with ACME, row 4 with Smiths & Co and row 5, 6, 7 & 8 with Jones & Son. In the column next to these names I need a unique ID placed for each unique company so row 1, 2 & 3 in the 2nd column will have 1, 1, 1 - row 4 column 2 will have 2 - row 5, 6, 7, & 8 column 2 will have 3, 3, 3, 3 etc...

    Any ideas?

    Re: Identifying Duplicate Records

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!
