    subtraction from 2 cells

    Hello,
i am looking to subrtact some figures to give a total used end count.
example : week 1 in stock is 1000 ltrs end of week 600 left simple subtraction for that one
week 2 in stock is 600 from last week new tank is 1000 so 600 is used when i do subtraction it give 400 i would like it to read that 600 has been used.

    A2- A3 = used
    600-1000= 600 used
    also in same could be
    A2- A3= used
1000-600=400 depending on what week and how much stock is used.

    Hope that explains enough

    Re: subtraction from 2 cells

It would seem from the (lack of) response that it didn't

I'm not sure about your second example line: 600-1000 = -400 no?

Perhaps if you explain in a bit more detail what you're trying to achieve, and/or upload an example file showing the results you'd like to see we might be able to help.

    Re: subtraction from 2 cells

Ok see if i can explain this better. These are 2 tanks holding 1000 each
    ..........................A2 B2
    week ending 04/03 11/03
    Position A 1000 800 = 200 used from 1000 litre tank

    Position B 700 1000 -300 should be 700 used
    Position C 0
    Spare
    Total 1700

A2 is last week total B2 is this week total as you see there was 700 last week and its all been used now there is new tank so that means 700 used but if i do normal sum of A2-B2 it gives me 300 as an answer.

i hope that makes it easier to understand. this will be a weekly thing si was auto filling the cells from week before.

That's a terrible explanation, but maybe in C2:

    =if(B2>B1,B1-B2+1000,B1-B2)

    ?

    I'm afraid I agree with bb's assessment!

If the proposed formula doesn't work upload an example file with a couple more rows in and we'll see what we can do.
