Protect Sheet; Locked cells can be modified // Data Validation not working

Hi All,

I'm having two issues with my spreadsheet, as listed below:

1) For some unknown reason, I can still modify or delete a locked cell in a protected sheet.

In the excel file, refer to tab EICE Time Summary range E8:E19.
E8:E19 are locked and hidden. I can still delete or modify the data.
Passw to unprotect is abc

2) In tab Apr4-11 I have some drop-down list. Refer to cell E26. I would expect an error message if I type an invalid data, however it didn't show me any error message when I manually typed "hello" in the cell. Not only I did not get a stop message but it also let me enter invalid data.

Can anyone help?

Maybe I did not make myself clear.

I locked a cell and when I protect the sheet, I can still modify the locked cell. That shouldn't happen:

NOTE: If you lock a cell and protect the worksheet, then you cannot type data into the cell, modify the data currently in the cell, or change other attributes of the cell (such as cell formatting).

Do you know why Excel is malfunctioning on this?

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!
