    Look up from range

    On sheet 2 I have a start and end date that are variable with another cell that is variable between E and W, and in the result cell I would like the average percentage calculated from sheet 1 for between the 2 dates on either the E or W line.

    Based on your sample file with alternating E/W records you could perhaps use something along the lines of:

    Note: you could use an OFFSET construct in preference to the IF, however, that would of course make the above Volatile.
