    Data Extraction help

I need help creating a drop down menu that allows me to pull data from sheet2.

I have all of my data on sheet2 and my objective is to have a small portion of the data displayed on sheet1 once the user selects the specific "study" from a drop down menu.

I have no idea how to create a drop down menu that will have a list of all the different studies, and then once the specific study is selected, how do I make it display the pertaining information in the master sheet.

    Please help!

    Follow up....more information

The data I’m working with is a master list of different drug studies. All of the data is broken down by the specific study itself, so all I need to do is figure out a way to let the user access the data in a quick and easy way. I figured this could be down with a drop down menu that has a list of each study, and the user could select the study they want to review. Once selected, the data pertaining to the study would then populate the fields on the master silde(sheet1). Please help with me this process. I am pretty lost on how to get started and I need results very soon!

Any help is very much appreciated!

I would use Advanced Filter with a little VBA and you will get an amazing tool

    jquick2,

Welcome to the forum. This should be pretty straighforward/do-able. Can you please upload a small sample file, showing the type and layout of your data, and clearly indicating what results should be displayed when a "study" is selected. Please be sure to remove any sensitive/confidential data, and I'm sure we'll be able to get you on the right path.
    Brendan.

    Re: Data Extraction help

    Dear BB1972,

Thank you for your reply and I really hope you can help me out with this issue. I have attached a sample file for your viewing and hopefully that will show you a little more clearly what I am looking for. I will try to explain as well...

On Sheet1 I want the user to be able to select the corresponding study from a drop down list and from there it will pull data from Sheet2 based on the selected study. The actual file I am working with contains much more data than the one I provided but hopefully we can use this sample file to show me the ropes on completing my objective.

Please let me know if you need are more clarification and again, I very much appreciate your time and efforts with this matter. Thank You!

    -Jon

    Hey Jon,

Just to make sure we're on the right path here, will you take a look and confirm this is what you're after - if you select different "studies" and "task numbers" in B5 & D5, the information in E5:I5 will change...

    Re: Data Extraction help

Looks pretty good! The only change I would need to make is when you select a specific study, all of the data pertaining to the one study is displayed. It does not need to be study specific and task specific.

    Re: Data Extraction help

Are you likely to have more than 3 Task #'s per task? If so, how many?

    Re: Data Extraction help

Yes, I will and it depends on each study. Some studies can have up to 60 tasks. Does it make a difference when creating this spreadsheet?

Yep, it does. This is one for tomorrow, my friend, unless someone else sorts you out in the meantime.
