Should be a quick fix (Hopefully).
On the attached file I want to select a month from a validation, e.g. February and have 2 cells update with the first and last date of the month, 01/02/2011 & 28/02/2011. Possible?

Try:
=EDATE(C2&1,0)
and
=EDATE(C2&1,1)-1
If you are in XL2003 or earlier, the EDATE function is an analysis toolpak addin function, to install go to Tools|Addin, select Analysis Toolpak.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
