Minimize SSE (Sum of Squared Errors) w/o Solver Tool

Hi,

I love how the Solver Tool in Excel can minimize my SSE for data by choosing the corresponding alpha value. The only problem is that I need this to happen more automatically (without clicking into the Solver tool). Do you know of a formula or VBA that can do this without manual interaction?

try recording a macro and assigning a shortcut to it. obviously save as a macro-enabled workbook

It depends on whether the problem can be solved either in closed form or via iteration, John. What's the nature of it?

Hi, thanks for the help!! I really appreciate it. I've attached a workbook that has some data in it similiar to what I am working with. Because the amount of data will change regularly and the end-user will not be someone super familiar with the Solver Tool, I would like to minimize SSE (AE4) based on the optimal alpha level (AE3).

I would prefer something that was more closed form.
