Arrow search upwards in a spreadsheet column for next previous occurance

    I am using MS Office 2000 5.0 and Excel 2000 9.0

I want to search upwards in a spreadsheet column for next previous occurance only of whatever is entered (or selected by data validation) in a given cell.

    Hi r.coon,

A quick internet search found this article.

I never knew I could Shift+Click on the Next button and it would look for previous.
Excel has so much stuff in it, how can any of us know it all?

    Does it help?

Re: search upwards in a spreadsheet column for next previous occurance

Thanks for the link, it may prove useful. I want to use a formula to find next previous occurance of text, then do some computation between cells associated with those two text occurances. Therefore I need to use the formula answer not the keystroke answer, but I'm not sure I understood the formula answer. It seemed it was written in shorthand assuming the reader was already familiar with the concept.
