Arrow Show 1st column text when moving scroll bar

I have a long list of data that is alphabetically arranged that I need to scroll through to find a specific entry. When I left click on the right hand scroll bar and slide it up or down a small yellow window pops up showing the row numbers. Is there a way to show the 1st column text instead so I know when I am in the right spot before releasing the mouse button?

    Hi r.coon,

The method is called Freeze First Column, or Freeze Panes. I think it was available on Excel 2000.

    It looks like http://txpress.blogspot.com/2008/12/...-in-excel.html

Re: Show 1st column text when moving scroll bar

Thanks for the tip MarvinP but I didn't explain myself well enough. I know about the freeze frame, love it and use it! However my question pertains to clicking and dragging the scroll bar on the right hand edge of worksheet. A small yellow window appears that shows the row you would be on if you release the mouse button, but the actual spreadsheet rows do not change until you release the button (try it on your worksheet, hopefully yours behaves that same as mine). I was asking if I could somehow change the readout in that small yellow box to reflect contents of a column (assuming column A) so I could watch the alphabetical contents flash by as I drag the scroll bar button instead of just row numbers. Did that clarify my intentions?

    Hi,

I've tried to find these information windows in the past and don't belelieve that specific one is available to us programmers. I don't think the function you are looking for is built into excel without building a custom userform and trying to duplicate what you explained above.
