    determining font color in one cell based on a value in a different cell

    I am creating a sheet that has a phone list for 2 buildings.
    1st column is Name, 2nd column is builing #
    I want to know if I can have the name font color determined by the building #?

    Hi,

    Yes. Check out the conditional formats and use the 'Formula Is' option. So in your column A cells you'll set the formula in the conditional format area to be

    Yes, with conditional formatting. Highlight the range you want, go to conditional formatting and input this as a formula: =$B2=1 for the first building, where B2 is the top cell in the building column not including the header. For the second, you can have =$B1=2 or make the default format the color you want for the second building.

    The only way I know of is to use conditional formatting (Format>Conditional Formatting). But it's limited to your basic logic functions. Hopefully your conditions are easily found within certain ranges. And you can also add up to 3 conditions. When you get there, it should be self-explanatory.
