    Checking values in two columns

I'm having a bit of a 'mare, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

In H3 I'm trying to put a formula that will count the number of Oncalls Year 7 students have had in English.

I would usually use the formula, =COUNTIF(B$2B$16,A19) to count how many Year 7 students there were. What I need the formula to do is only count the Year 7 students if in column C it says English (and preferably look up the value of English from cell A24, rather than using "English" - if that makes sense)

Many thanks for any help you can give.
