Pivot table - change data source to another pivot table in 2010

    Hi,

I have a page with 8 pivot tables looking back to the same source data. In Excel 2003 I used to be able to change the data source for tables 2-8 to point to table 1 which reduced the file size quite a bit, but I can't see how to do this in Excel 2010 - any ideas?!

    Thanks
    Mark

    Hello,

when you define a pivot table, you point to the data source. If multiple pivot tables use the same data source, then they also use the same pivot cache. That's the default in 2010.

You can use the Pivot Table Wizard, a command not in the ribbon, but still available, but you'd only want to use it to create a different Pivot cache, which would increase file size, not decrease it.

I'm not sure what you are after. If all your pivot tables point to the same data source, what do you want to optimise?

    Hi
Thanks for the response - how do I access the pivot table wizard in 2010? I can't find it...

As far as i understand, I want to use the same Pivot cache, not a different one. All the pivots are just showing different cuts of the same data, but by linking the tables I've always found that it reduces the file size..

    Alt-D-P

Or create a command on the ribbon. You can find the PT Wizard under "Commands not in the ribbon" and drag it into a custom group in the ribbon or to the QAT.

Thanks teylyn - worked as hoped. And very useful to know the PT Wizard is still available - now added to my QAT
