formula to retrieve cell depending on date within another column?

    Hi there,

I am having a bit of trouble with how to do this.

I basically have a spreadsheet with lots of data in each column.

In one of the columns (H:H) , there is a date and then another column (J:J) there is a value I want to retrieve.

So an example would be H1 to have 01/01/01 and J1 to have the number 5
    H2 would have 01/01/01 and J2 would have 4

How would I go about doing something so that it would be like - Add together all the digits within the J column if the H column cell had the date between like 01/01/11 - 31/01/11

I think it is a sumif

so it would be like finding the cells with the dates between 01/01/11 and 31/01/11 and then looking across seeing what is in the same row underneath the J column and then adding them altogether.

    Thank you

    Give us a clue...
Post a workbook with what you have so far, showing your Sheet Layout and perhaps Before and After examples.

It should clearly illustrate your problem and not contain any sensitive data.
