Running Windows based Excel Application on a Mac

    Hi all:

I have an application that was developed using Windows Excel 2007 and uses VBA. Here are a couple of questions:

    1. Will the existing application run on a Mac (Apple OS)?
    2. If it will not, what needs to be done to the existing application to make it work on a Mac?

Thank you for you kind assistance.

    - Ravi

    Hi Martin:

Thank you for your kind response.

Does that mean, an Excel application developed on Windows OS will not work on a Mac? And that a Mac Version of the Excel application would have to be developed?

    Thanks.

i think you'd be better of google-ing this question ,some versions of windows for mac did not support vba.
so you need to check exactly what you have. i don't have a mac and never will so i cant help you more than that, However there are members on this forum who use macs and they may know more,

    As Martin said it depends.
VBA on the mac has only recently been reinstated. xl2008, I think that's the version, had no VBA and apple script was requried for automation.

There is also a VBA version difference between xl2004 (v5.0) and xl2011 (v6.5)

And of course it will depend greatly on what the vba is actually doing.

Thank you both, Martin and Andy, for your response.

The VBA code executes everything from moving from one screen to another in the application, as well as developing graphs based on the data presented.

I had one ohter person (not from this forum) suggest OpenOffice Calc also.

OpenOffice VBA is worlds apart from MS Excel VBA
    Hope that helps.

    Hi Roy:

Thank you for your kind response. So OpenOffice is not viable either, in the sense that moving to OpenOffice would still require a re-write of the entire application.

One thought is, can the MS Excel application be run on any browsers? Thanks.
