    Too few arguments

    Hello:

I'm having an issue with excel 2007. All the formulas I try using, whether it is through the wizard or manually entered, I consistantly get an error message saying "you have entered too few arguements for this function."

Do you have any insight on why this is happening?

    Re: too few arguements

Does every formula do this? Try entering this in cell C1 of a new workbook:

    Re: too few arguements

    Oh Thank YOU!!

    Here's an example:
In the attached file, if you go into cell E14 the formula for a vlookup appears and all looks good but if you go into the formula box and press enter that is when you get the error message. Also, if I try to enter the same formula using the wizard it gives me the same error.

It does not do it on less complicated fuctions (i.e. SUM) only on vlookup and index (but that's as far as I've gotten in the book.)

I've attached the excel file and a word doc showing what I'm talking about.

Thanks again for all your help!!

I'm guessing that means there is something wrong with my excel or computer then....

    Re: Too few arguments

Looking at your screenshots, you're missing commas between the arguments.

    You have:

    =VLOOKUP(D14 Lookup 2)

    It should be

    =VLOOKUP(D14, Lookup, 2)

Incidentally, using "Lookup" as a named range isn't the best because LOOKUP is also an Excel worksheet function. I'd call the named range something else.
    Hope that helps,

    Colin

    Re: Too few arguments

Thanks Collin. I tried adding the commas but it then gives me an error message that says that I had an error in nope. Just another error....now it says the "formula you typed contains an error." Even when I try to use the wizard....it's bizarre.

    Re: Too few arguments

it seems like my excel doesn't recognize commas for some reason...the file originally had commas and when I open it, there are no commas and when I again enter them...I still get the error message.
