    Flexible Vlookup formula

    Hi all
    I have posted a similar question, however, thought perhaps to split the task up and break down the problem.

    Is it possible to reference a cell in another spreadsheet, but this spreadsheet name will change on a monthly basis,ie : Jan_2011, Feb_2011, March_2011.

    The primary spreadsheet will always remain the same yet the value in the cell may change based on the cell value in the above referenced cell (March_2011 for example)

    in context I am want to ensure a spreadsheet shows the most up to date finish date of a project. At times this does change, which would be highlighted the March_2011 spreadsheet.

    thought

    thanks!

    If the cell you refer to is always in the same location on each sheet and you're not having to search for the value somehow, try using:
    Please Login or Register to view this content.
    This will tie the spreadsheet referenced to the current date based on the system clock and will always refer to the value in cell A1 of the referenced sheet.

    If this doesn't do it and you need to perform a VLOOKUP, please post a sample of your workbook and I'd be glad to look into it.

    The year can be combined in the TEXT function:

    =INDIRECT(TEXT(TODAY(),"mmm_yyyy")&"!A1")

    also, note that if you want to reference the whole month name change mmm to mmmm
    Where there is a will there are many ways.
