Smile How to apply conditional formatting to cells based on their previous cell value.

    Hi,
I want to highlight all cells in a column based on their previous cell value.
    For example....
In the column H, if h2<h1 or h3<h2 or h4<h3.....so on...they must be highlighted with red color indicating the lesser cell value than the previous one.

I can format only one cell based on above condition but unable to do this with all the cells in that column with the above condition.

    Please help.

    Thanks

    Hi sktneer,

Apply your conditional formatting to cell A2, ensuring you do NOT use absolute references.

Then use the format paintbrush to copy the format down the remainder of the column.

    Cheers,

    Hi ConneXionLost,
    Thanks for the help.
It is working with some errors though your sheet is working fine.
When I copy the format to other cells, the formatting is not working with some cells due to unknown reasons.

Can you find the reason why is this happening ?

It seems you didn't take into account your column title ("Premium") when you followed the instructions. The result was setting each cell to change color if it was less than the cell above the previous cell; i.e., cell A10 is red because it is less than A8 (instead of A9).
