    conditionally copying values down a column

    Can anyone help me with the following?

    I have a spreadsheet similar to below where I need to copy the transaction number down the column until the transaction number changes then repeat for the next transaction number

    You could insert a "helper column" next to the existing column of numbers & blanks. Put the first number in at the top then this formula copied down from the cell below

    =IF(A2="",B1,A2)

    Copy & paste special the results as values, then delete the original column
